Recap: Seattle’s Day of Action

Saturday’s Seattle’s Women’s March brought hundreds of thousands of activists to the streets in a movement for rights and equality. Following the march, on Sunday, January. 21, The Riveter joined forces with Seattle Womxn Marching Forward and Womxn Act on Seattle to bring to Seattle a citywide day of learning and engagement. The day was full of events, from panels, presentations and wellness offerings, to a donation drive and voter registration.  At The Riveter we hosted several panels and workshops to support women in entrepreneurship. If you were exhausted after Saturday’s rallies and marching, or want to revisit what you learned from the day, the wonderful volunteers captured recordings of the events:

  • TRAINING: WOMEN ENTREPRENEURSHIP: How to launch a business, what you need to know, and what actions can help you toward success. Led by Dona Sarkar, a member of The Riveter, author, fashion designer and executive at Microsoft. View here.  
  • PANEL: WOMXN ENTREPRENEURSHIP: Hear first-hand stories of diverse women who have taken the leap to launch their own businesses. Moderated by Sarah Schneider. Panelists included Nancy Jensen, co-founder of The Swing Shift (Previously ReBoot Seattle), Noruah Yonus, Executive Director of the African Women’s Business Alliance, Ximena Juarez, entrepreneur and immigrant business owner and Teresa Belmont, entrepreneur and immigrant business owner. View here.
  • PANEL: INTERSECTIONAL FEMINISM: What is intersectional feminism? How do we all fit into it? And how do we shift our thinking to become greater advocates? Moderated by Fleur Larsen. Panelists included Cara Bilodeau, Associate Director at Win Win Network, Aparna Rae, Director of Programs at the Women’s Funding Alliance, Patty Julio, Consultant and in-house executive in affordable housing and community development, Sage Quiamno, Community Manager and Digital Media Strategist of Ladies Get Paid Seattle and Dalya Perez, a community organizer practitioner and facilitator. View here. 
  • PRESENTATION: WOMXN, SCIENCE, AND LEADERSHIP: Hear the first-hand account of being a woman and feminist in science by Dr. Sarah Myhre, Ph.D., a leading voice in the field of climate science, science communication and academic-boundary partnership. View here.
