How to Untangle Yourself From Your 9 to 5 this Cuffing Season

Don't Settle for Less as We Cool Down

As we near the end of the year and start to think about our New Year’s resolutions, we also start thinking about our relationships – with people, food, yourself, and of course, with work. But, it is cuffing season! What is cuffing season?

Cuffing season is when it starts to get chilly outside, and since everyone is coupling up, single people tend to find someone… anyone… to pass those cold months with, maybe even lowering their standards a tad. It typically goes from November to just after Valentine’s Day. But what does cuffing season have to do with work? Well, oftentimes the way we behave in one area of our life is the way we are behaving elsewhere. So just because you are cuffed in your love life doesn’t mean you need to be cuffed to your job! Here are some ways you can make sure to untangle yourself from your 9 to 5:

#1: Reminder that you don’t have to settle for less happiness!

During cuffing season, we often lower our standards just to pair up. Ask yourself if you are doing the same thing with your job. Does work bring you any sense of joy? Fulfillment? Is it just a means to pay the bills? Is there another job you can do that brings you joy, or is there a hobby or activity that you can add in to your live to make you feel happier.

#2: Stop only thinking about the right now, and start thinking about the future as well.

Does your job actually make you miserable, yet you are too afraid to take the leap and leave? Are you just being complacent? Are you mistaking comfort with what actually will serve you the best?

#3: Ask yourself if you are you actually “cuffed” to the right thing, yet you’re just not getting what you need or deserve?

You might be in the right place, but in the wrong position, not getting enough money, or even, not taking yourself seriously enough. Just like in a romantic relationship, ask yourself what you want out of the situation, and then ask for it. You don’t need to stay at the same salary forever. If you’ve been doing more work, get that raise!
