Founder File: Meet Rachael Blumberg Creator and Founder of PLATEFIT

What made you want to start your own business?

I was introduced to the power plate when I was 27 years old. I went to a local gym here in Los Angeles and the machine was in the corner of the gym. I was intrigued by this funny looking piece of equipment. I grew up an athlete and played D1 water polo in college and had spent many hours in gyms throughout my life. I pulled the yoga mat off the plate and the dumbbells and pressed start. I stood up on the plate and in 30 seconds the vibration changed my life. I felt the healing properties of this device and I became obsessed with knowing everything there is to know about vibration and how it works with the body. I decided to quit my day job and start PlateFIT.

The pandemic drastically changed the fitness space. How did this allow you to get more creative and try to reach more people virtually?

It did and is continuing to keep us on our toes. We have a home version of the plate. A lot of our members and followers purchased these plates and joined our On Demand channel.

As a mother, do you find it important for your children to get to see you at work? How does this differ from your own experience growing up and how you saw women in business?

Yes yes yes yes yes!!!!! It’s so important that they see me excited about my work. They see the dedication and creative outlet I’ve created for myself. My Mom worked my whole life, so for me working was part of life. Not being able to work the way I was used to working during the pandemic made me realize how much I love my work and how important it is for me as a woman to have that creative outlet in my life.

As a female founder and someone who invests in other female businesses, what do you want your legacy to be?

What a question. That I changed peoples lives for the better. Whether it was in my business or with friends or my own family. The point is to live so fully that you grow into a human whom you deeply love and respect which allows others to do the same.
