An evening of conversation and inspiration as we outline the vision of inspiring moms into political leadership and championing change!

Join Simona Grace, Founder of Moms in Office, for an evening of conversation and inspiration as she outlines her vision of inspiring moms into political leadership and championing change together!

Mothers make up one of the largest segments of our population in the US yet they make up the smallest segment of government; if we want equal representation in our federal government, this must include moms.

Close to 88% of women have become mothers by the age of 44 and yet the percentage of moms with children under 18 is only 5% in Congress. This means that women are delaying their political careers making it much longer for them to reach leadership positions.

Besides a more equal and intersectional representation in our government, what else might we accomplish if we elected more moms to office? Working mothers propose and enact more family-friendly bills - more moms in office would likely influence Congress to put these measures into law.

Our event will dive into this statistical disconnect and what needs to be done — informative and galvanizing!

Moms in Office

It is their mission to empower all moms and help more progressive moms get elected to office. This organization aims to bring together a community of women with a shared sense of purpose - the purpose to improve the lives of women, families, and children. They believe that when these two groups of women come together- moms desiring change and moms running championing change- we can achieve progress and create a more equal and just society.

Who will be there!?

Simona Grace

Founder of Moms in Office, a political action committee, on a mission to help elect moms to public office.

Assemblymember Rob Bonta

Assemblymember Rob Bonta has represented the 18th Assembly District, which includes the cities of Oakland, Alameda, and San Leandro since 2012. He serves as the Assistant Majority Leader and is the first Filipino American state lawmaker. In 2019, he authored AB 220 that’s now been signed into law which advances gender parity in elected office by allowing the use of campaign funds to pay for child care expenses for people seeking to serve in local and state-level office. He fights to promote progressive values of Justice, Inclusion, Equity and Opportunity. Bonta and his wife Mia, an elected school board president, have 3 children and live in Alameda.

Amber Maltbie

Amber Maltbie is a campaign finance and election law attorney, providing strategic counsel to individuals, nonprofits, agencies, and organizations engaged in political and lobbying activity. For the past six years, Amber has served on the board of Emerge California, an organization that has trained over 500 women to run for office in California. Amber also excels in matters at the intersection between U.S. and international election law, gender issues, and women's political participation. She has been widely recognized as a leading expert in gender and elections.

Councilwoman Nury Martinez

City Council President Pro Tempore Nury Martinez is a glass-ceiling shattering leader who brings profound life experience as the proud daughter of working-class immigrants, as well as years of legislative and community advocacy expertise, to the forefront of her work fighting for the families of the City of Los Angeles and the Sixth Council District in the Northeast San Fernando Valley. In 2020, Nury Martinez will become the first Latina City Council President in the City Council's 170-year history. She is leading a policy initiative to increase “paid parental leave” in the City of Los Angeles so that mothers, and all parents, can properly care for and bond with their new-born infants without fear of losing their salaries or jobs.
