The Riveter

Female-founded businesses are notoriously one of the most underserved when it comes to funding—in 2017 they received less than 3 percent. In Washington state, the number is even lower: 1 percent. We’re taking on the challenge and launching a new program to reduce the barriers women face: The Riveter VC Office Hours for Female-Founded Companies is a dedicated program to bring women in search of funding, and the VC institutions that provide it, face to face. And we’re bringing this to you every single week. We think it’s that important, and so do the men and women in Seattle’s investment community. We even have participation from venture capital firms based in San Francisco and Bend, Oregon!

Investors at Seattle’s venture capital institutions have volunteered to provide guidance on raising capital, pitching, negotiations, pitch deck creation, networking, deal structuring, and more. Each week, a different investor will be available to meet 1 on 1 or with a company’s founding team. The best part? We’re opening the doors to access — The Riveter members and the general public are invited to attend. And, it’s free. If you’re a woman in business and fundraising is on your horizon, this program is for you.

VC office hours are scheduled in 30-minute increments. Each business (individual or team) can attend 3 meetings with 3 different VC investors every year. Office hours will be held every other Tuesday at The Riveter, Capitol Hill, and every other Thursday at The Riveter, Fremont.

Do I need to be a woman to sign up? No, but we ask that your company be female-founded.
Can I bring my full team? Yes, bring your founding team – we don’t recommend bringing more than four or five.
Can I meet with a VC outside of office hours? If they’re agreeable, you can schedule follow-up meetings directly with them or their office.
What if I’m not actively pursuing funding… but I’m considering it? Sign up! VC Office hours are to get advice whether you’re considering pursuing funding or ready to take the leap.
I’m not pursuing funding. Can the VC help me with just my business plan? The office hours are for businesses that are getting ready to raise or are raising. A VC can review your draft business plan with the intention to help you get ready to raise. Remember, you have 30 minutes with this VC, so we recommend using your time wisely. And don’t forget, with a membership at The Riveter you receive access to free workshops to help you grow your business!
